Hi! My name is Ken, a mentor in the Driving Change program in Dubbo. I’m 71 now and retired, so I can try my hand volunteering for various things in the community. I really enjoy being part of Driving Change. One thing I’ve learned about volunteering is that there has to be something in it for everyone, not cash payments, but a level of satisfaction that keeps you hanging in there, even when you run into a hassle or two. I’ve had a privileged life with opportunities to do all sorts of things in Australia and Africa. So I get a buzz out of helping young people who’ve had less opportunities than I have to get a driver’s license that might help them to find a job, take kids to sport, look after family members in need, do the shopping, or a heap of other stuff that comes in handy. And, of course, I get to meet some really nice young people along the way.
So, I enjoy what I do and I do get satisfaction from this volunteering. I hope I can be at it for a while yet. A big thank you to Driving Change for taking me along for the ride!
